12VDC + Hand Crank Dynamo Green energy 200mA + AWESOME
This listing (2010-049) is for A SUPER AWESOME hand crank dynamo! These are my new favorite toys! For those of you who don't know what a dynamo is, you're in luck, because I'm about to tell you! In a nutshell, when you quickly cut magnetic lines of flux with a conductor, an electric current is induced on the wire. A DC motor can be used to generate electricity, but you have to spin it really fast and rectify the output. Gas generators work like this, and so do the turbines that provide the 110VAC powering our houses. This is called "electromagnetic inductance". Look it up.
This crank generator fits in your hand, and the crank can be folded in. I've reached 13VDC+ volts DC at about 200mA+. I actually overloaded my multimeter on the 200mA MAX setting! There is an internal rectifier, so you don't have to worry about rectifying it yourself. This is a special device that is essentially a DC motor with an internal gear set-up that is allows for you to turn the motor shaft several, several times per full 360 degree rotation. I could not believe how much power I got out of it. THE VIDEO ABOVE SHOWCASES THIS PRODUCT.
CHARGE SUPER CAPACITORS WITH IT!
I fully charged a 5.5v 1 farad super capacitor in less than 10 seconds. If you want to do this as well, just make sure that you DO place a diode between the positive output (little red dot indicator), and the positive lead of the super capacitor, or else the charged will run back through the DC motor, and waste energy (and run the motor backwards!). Make sure you DO NOT over charge the super capacitor! Since the capacitor is drawing all the current that the dynamo is supplying, the voltage drops at the dynamo output until the capacitor starts to charge. YOU MUST place a voltage meter across the capacitor to make sure that you don't charge past the DC charge rating of the capacitor. For instance, I stopped cranking when I reached 5.5VDC on the capacitor.
If you have any questions, please ask. I LOVE THESE GUYS! Really! You get a lot of power (2W+) when you crank these fast.
